Biography

Professional Background

Dr. Ken Cutshall is a Johnson City native who feels privileged to have served his hometown community for greater than 24 years as a private practice surgeon. Dr. Cutshall is a general surgeon and is board certified by the American Board of Surgery. Dr. Cutshall enjoys keeping up with the advances in the surgical field.

Clinical Interests

He has a special interest in minimally invasive surgery, excelling at both robotic and laparoscopic applications. Dr. Cutshall pioneered the use of the robot for general surgery regionally when it first arrived in 2009 and remains the longest-tenured robotic general surgeon in the TRI-Cities along with his partner, Dr. Robertson. He and Dr. Robertson are accredited by the Surgical Review Corporation as Master Surgeons and Surgeons of Excellence in Robotic Surgery. In addition to performing complex robotic procedures, Dr. Cutshall is one of just a handful of surgeons in Tennessee to become a certified proctor of robotic surgery, teaching and mentoring other surgeons as they learn to perform robotic surgery.

Special interests of Dr. Cutshall include:

  • Colon diseases (surgery for colon cancer, rectal cancer, colon polyps, diverticulitis)
  • Cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal)
  • Hernia repair (inguinal, incisional, ventral, hiatal)
  • Thyroidectomy/parathyroidectomy
  • Adrenalectomy / splenectomy
  • Breast cancer (lumpectomy with sentinel lymph node biopsy and mastectomy)
  • Thyroid nodules including in-office ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration biopsy (FNA)

 

Dr. Cutshall is a Clinical Professor of Surgery at the Quillen College of Medicine and enjoys teaching surgical residents and medical students. He is a fellow of The American College of Surgeons and a member of The Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons as well as The American Society of Breast Surgeons. He is accredited as a Master Surgeon and Surgeon of Excellence in Robot Surgery by the Surgical Review Corporation. Dr. Cutshall takes pride in being a general surgeon and a doctor.
